80% of the servers will be virtualized by 2012!

Today, more than half of deployed servers are virtualized (against 30% in 2008) and this will rise to 80% by 2012, according to a study by TheInfoPro with 195 large U.S. and European companies. The reason for this infatuation? The technological maturity of current hypervisors and economic benefits of virtualization, especially in an economic environment where businesses are forced to tighten their IT budgets.
VMware leader ... but tomorrow?
VMware still dominates the field of virtualization, with 50% market share, far ahead of Microsoft (24%). This trend could still change. 62% of companies have already tested another hypervisor than VMware, amongst them 30% plan to abandon it for another supplier. TheInfoPro predicted however that in most companies heterogeneous servers are always appreciated.
